I Started this at 49. Am I too old? Is it too late?
In 2017, I bought podcast equipment and let it sit under my desk for two years.
Every time I looked at it, I knew there was something I wanted to say. I just wasn’t ready to say it yet. Or maybe I was ready, but fear, perfectionism and life kept giving me reasons to wait.
I finally launched Sisternomics October 2, 2019 at 49.
Not 29. Not at the beginning of my career. I started after I had lived, worked, succeeded, failed, changed my mind and gained some hard-earned wisdom.
I also started because I wanted to create the type of content I wanted to hear.
Seven years and more than 160 episodes later, I know this for sure: You are not too old, too late or too far behind to begin.
We give youth too much credit and experience not nearly enough. Being older means you have perspective. You know some things. You’ve survived some things. You have a point of view that can’t be downloaded, duplicated or manufactured.
That idea you keep thinking about may not require a perfect plan, expensive equipment or another year of research. It may only require your willingness to begin before you feel completely ready.
For me, all I needed was one mic.
In the latest episode of Sisternomics, Am I Too Old? Is it Too Late?: What 7 Years of Sisternomics Taught Me, I’m reflecting on the journey and what I now know about starting, staying with it and doing it your way. Sure, I wish I would have started sooner but dammit, at least I started!
I’d love to know what you’re currently building or thinking about starting. Share your dreams (and your age if you want to!) in the comments. I’m sure we’ll be inspired.
