The Frequency of Heaven: Finding Peace When the World Feels Out of Control
I’ve spent enough time producing stories to know that sound can change how we experience a moment. Put one piece of music under a video and you feel hopeful. Change the music and suddenly you’re waiting for something terrible to happen.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the soundtrack of my own life these days.
The news. The conversations I keep having. The voices I let into my head before I’ve even had a moment to pray. It all affects me. And when I’m taking in a steady stream of negativity, I can feel it in my body and hear it in my thoughts.
That’s what led me to talk about the frequency of heaven on this week’s episode of Sisternomics.
I’m using “frequency” as a way to describe what I’m tuned into spiritually. The world gives us plenty to worry about. I’m not suggesting we ignore what’s happening or pretend everything is fine. This is an invitation to choose which frequency you’ll tune into.
I’ve had seasons when I needed more than an encouraging thought. I needed a financial breakthrough. During one of those times, I chose to worship and give thanks for what I was believing God for, even though I couldn’t yet see how it would happen. The provision came in a way I hadn’t expected.
After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico, my family and I spent 14 months helping people in our community. We didn’t have an endless supply of resources. We had a home, a willingness to serve, and people who needed help. I still think about what became possible when we kept showing up.
Those experiences didn’t make me immune to hard days. They taught me to pay attention to where I turn on them.
Sometimes tuning into heaven looks like speaking with faith about a future you can’t see yet. Sometimes it means guarding your ear gate: turning off the noise, changing the music, or stepping away from a conversation that leaves you depleted.
Sometimes it means asking whether the people closest to you actually help you hear God more clearly.
Romans 4:17 speaks of calling things that are not as though they were. I return to that scripture when my circumstances are trying to have the final word.
So here’s the question I’m asking myself, and I’ll leave it with you: What have you been tuned into lately?
I go deeper into this conversation, including the practices that help me shift my focus, in this week’s Sisternomics episode, “The Frequency of Heaven.”
